MarlboroughPost Road Carpet carries one of the largest assortments of carpet styles in eastern Massachusetts, along with the experienced sales staff to guide customers through the options available. Unlike many carpet retailers, Post Road has a large selection of carpet rolls and remnants in stock in the store for quick installations, as well as the extensive selection available to order.
The store, on the eastern end of the Boston Post Road (Rt. 20) in Marlborough, has been in business for 52 years at that location. Desiree Meyers, who owns the business, bought it 18 years ago after working for the previous owner.
The store’s large selection, plus quick installation and competitive prices, gives Post Road Carpet an advantage over the big box retailers and internet carpet sellers, Meyers pointed out.
“We can usually do an installation within a week,” she said. “We will arrange for the installation and have experienced crews who work for us.”
And the store offers “tens of thousands” of choices given the large number of styles and variety of colors within those styles. Carpeting from most major manufacturers, including Mohawk, Couristan, Prestige and Kane, is available, in a wide range of materials and prices. Customers are encouraged to take samples home to see the options with their furnishings and lighting.
“Customers should focus on the look and the colors they are most interested in and on their budget for the project. We can advise which kind of carpet will work best within those colors and price range, depending on where it will be installed,” Meyers said. A family room will need sturdier carpeting than a bedroom, for example.
And if a family has pets, Meyers noted that many manufacturers are offering “pet-friendly” products now that resist staining.
The current trendy color is gray, she said, but most customers still opt for neutrals. Gaining popularity is a style called “frieze,” which is a little looser than a plush style so that it has a softer feel.
“Frieze is extremely popular in California and the West, and is moving in here.” Meyers said.
The store also carries runners in Oriental-style patterns and a variety of patterned carpets. “We can find a pattern if you have something in mind,” Meyers said. “I once found leopard and antelope patterns for a child’s room.”
Meyers emphasized that Post Road has very competitive prices. “We do not have hidden costs. Our pricing includes pads and installation. And we use only quality pads. Some other places use a cheap pad you shouldn’t put on a floor. When a customer comes in, if they know the size of the room, they will pretty much know what the job will cost.
“We also provide excellent service. We’ve been here a long time, and customer satisfaction is important to us. If there’s a problem, we’ll take care of it.”
Meyers goes to a customer’s home to do a final measurement since the carpeting is precut at the store to make installation easier.
The retailer concentrates on installations in central and eastern Massachusetts, but has installed carpeting for customers with second homes on the Cape or elsewhere. Post Road Carpet serves both residential and commercial customers.
Post Road Carpet is much larger than it looks from the street. In addition to several rooms full of carpeting samples in all styles and colors, there’s a room of remnants that can be cut and bound into area rugs or installed in smaller spaces.
The company does not offer carpet cleaning services but can recommend reliable cleaning companies.
