Grafton – Joseph S. Lucek, 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 2, 2015 at St. Francis Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Cecelia J. (Podsiadlo); his daughter, Shirley Pelland and her husband William; his son, Robert J. Lucek and his wife Debbie Todd; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Pelland and his wife Summer, Jo Anne Gallant and her husband Raymond, Laurie Lundell and her husband Neil, Melissa and Torrey Blackwell, Scott Lucek, and Adam Lucek; his great-grandchildren, Cameron and Meadow Gallant, Louis and Julia Lundell, Delaney Pelland, and Fox and Memphis Blackwell; and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Francis Lucek, and sisters Jenny Lucek and Helen Browne predeceased him.
Joe was born Jan. 29, 1922 in Millville, son of the late Anna (Pryzbyla) and Walter Lucek. He served as a sergeant and radar specialist in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. Following his military service, he and Cecilia were married and raised their family in Grafton.
He worked at Draper Corporation in the foundry for many years and then in the Grafton School system as a custodian.
Family and life’s simpler things were all Joe needed to be happy. His family extends their gratitude to the staff at St. Francis Nursing & Rehabilitation for the compassionate care they gave to Joe.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial donations to the Autism Research Center, 71 Sterling St., West Boylston, MA 01583.
All are welcome to gather with Joe’s family and friends Wednesday, April 8, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton, followed by the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, 89 Main St., South Grafton. He will then be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in South Grafton.
