Shrewsbury – American Legion Ray Stone Post 238 and Troop 4 announced that Matthew R. Wolohan, 16, of Shrewsbury, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout March 4. The ceremony date for the Eagle Scout presentation is yet to be announced.

Matthew, the son of Daniel and Patricia Wolohan, is a sophomore at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury. Matthew is active at St. John’s as a member in the Street Hockey Club, Ski Club and French Club and is a hockey player for the Shrewsbury Youth Hockey Association Midget Team.

Matthew began Scouting in first grade as a Cub Scout with Pack 158 at St. Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury. He earned the Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts and Parvuli Dei Catholic religious awards before becoming a Boy Scout. As a Boy Scout, Matthew has attended Scouting’s High Adventure Camps of Northern Tier in Minnesota, the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia and is scheduled to attend Seabase in Key West, Fla., in August.

During Matthew’s time with the troop, he has become a member of the Order of the Arrow – Honor Society of Scouting – attended National Youth Leadership Training and attained numerous merit badges on his path to Eagle Scout. He presently serves Troop 4 as a patrol leader and was the troop’s senior patrol leader last summer at Camp Resolute where they earned Honor Troop. His future plans are to seek a nomination to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point or receive an Army ROTC scholarship to a local college.
