Marlborough – St. Mary’s Credit Union will present a free community service seminar Thursday, May 7, to educate young people about managing personal finances. The seminar will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the credit union’s headquarters, 46 Lizotte Drive, Marlborough. All are welcome; pre-registration is required. The seminar will focus on checking and savings accounts, loans, credit and collections, and setting goals and budgeting.
St. Mary’s Credit Union President and CEO James C. Garvey noted, “There is, unfortunately, a disturbing lack of knowledge about managing money among young people. Knowing that schools are already hard-pressed to offer these programs within the existing school day, St. Mary’s Credit Union has decided to take a lead role locally to address this important need within the community.”
Dinner is included with the seminar, as well as prizes and giveaways throughout the evening.
“We know the importance of keeping young people’s attention and that’s why we are designing the night to be both fun and educational,” said St. Mary’s Credit Union Marketing Vice President Anthony J. Battista.
“As students graduate from high school and begin college – they should have some basic skills and knowledge about managing their money,” Battista said. “We will teach them about budgets, credit and avoiding common traps that create debt. I hope that a lot of people will take advantage of this opportunity.”
