Shrewsbury – At their regularly scheduled meeting April 28, Shrewsbury Selectmen completed a number of items. Per Article 12 on the warrant for the Town Meeting on May 18, selectmen listed to Town Engineer Jeffrey W. Howland the private ways listed on the warrant for acceptance as public ways. They include Appaloosa Drive, Shetland Way, Thoroughbred Way, Farmview Estates, Grove Meadow Lane, Grove Meadow Farm, Ashwood Circle, Balsam Circle, Hemlock Circle and Rawson Hill Estates II.
The application for constable from Justin Walker was approved until June 30, at which time he will be eligible for reappointment. Similarly, Andrew Boucher was approved to fill the balance of the term for the Shrewsbury Development Corporation. The Lakeside Bar and Grill, 97 Boston Turnpike, was approved for an all alcoholic beverages license.
Town Manager Daniel Morgado reported to the board on progress at the state level. He noted that Governor Charlie Baker was pushing regulatory reform, especially regarding education, and enhancing exemptions offered on property taxes. Baker is reportedly collecting property tax information toward generating some relief in this area. The governor is also concentrating upon limiting the practice of placing homeless and drug-addicted residents in hotels and motels across the state, a practice which is both very expensive and has a negative impact upon the communities involved.
