Shrewsbury – “And they’re off!” With those words, the 18 horses in the Run for the Roses galloped off the starting gates at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Back in Shrewsbury, the Women on Wine (WOW) ladies, a group of neighbors on Fox Hill Road, Red Coat Road, and Red Coat Circle, cheered wildly for their assigned horses at their first Kentucky Derby party.
Following the Derby traditions, the bash featured dishes made with bourbon, fancy hats and spring dresses, and games and decorations following the horse theme.
The neighbors started meeting once a month several years ago as a way to get to know each other. Get-togethers are kept simple; wine, women, munchies, gossip, and laughter. The results have been new friends and a warm support system.
