Marlborough – A request for a special permit on behalf of Ferris Development to construct a mixed-use building at 325 Donald J. Lynch Boulevard was referred to the Urban Affairs committee at the May 4 City Council meeting. A public hearing date was scheduled for June 15.
Plans call for the area to contain restaurants with drive-thru facilities, retail and office space. The area is presently a limited industrial district, according to Attorney David P. Gadbois, who is representing the developer. In his communication to the council, Gadbois said the change will provide for future commercial growth within the designated area.
In other business, councilors approved a $5 million transfer for the Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) to finance the city’s long-term liability for post-employment benefits for retirees. The funds will be placed in a stabilization fund account with Bartholomew & Company, Inc., allowing them to be invested and produce earnings.
In making his recommendation to the council, Mayor Arthur Vigeant said: “This request represents a giant step for our community toward ensuring we do not saddle future generations with crippling costs associated with pension and retiree health insurance obligations.”
