Marlborough – UMassMemorial Marlborough Hospital will be hosting its 17th annual Safe Summer Fun Day on Saturday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This popular educational event is a free child-oriented health and safety fair featuring hands-on hospital exhibits. One of the signature activities is a bike-helmet fitting tent where trained hospital staff properly fits and gives away children’s bicycle helmets.
Other activities include an obstacle course, a trackless train, a deejay, balloon animals, games and contests. Educational topics will include backpack safety, how a heart monitor works, the importance of hand washing, dental safety, gun safety, drug awareness and healthy eating. Free health-related pamphlets will be available in several languages for diverse attendees and free children’s books will be given away to emphasize the importance of literacy for good health and safety.
Representatives from the fire department will be on hand with their equipment to teach fire safety and ambulances will be available for children to climb inside and talk to health care professionals. Life Flight, the medical helicopter will arrive giving children the opportunity to look inside and meet the physicians, pilots, and nurses that staff it.
