Westborough – In China and Japan, cherry blossoms are known as sakura. The delicate pink blossoms are widely celebrated at parties, picnics, festivals and quaint evening strolls. In full bloom, the trees signify spring – the season of new life. It’s not a coincidence that reflexology practitioner Lucy Chen’s new Westborough salon, located at 164 Milk St., is called Sakura Foot Reflexology. With its tranquil atmosphere and trained technicians, Sakura hopes to provide its customers with a new sense of relaxation and well-being.
As its name implies, the salon specializes in foot reflexology. Practitioners of reflexology believe that each area of a person’s feet relates directly to a body organ or system. They believe that applying pressure to these areas affects the corresponding body parts by relieving tension, increasing circulation and improving general health. Studies have indicated that reflexology can be effective in relieving stress, tension and pain. Chen, who has been practicing reflexology for 12 years, has experienced its benefits and has seen it help many customers at her other salon, Spring Foot Reflexology in Northborough, which opened in early 2012.
“Reflexology helps everyone!” she said.
At Sakura Foot Reflexology, Chen said her customers can expect a very relaxing experience at an affordable price. Priced at only $35 for a one-hour reflexology session, the experience includes a fifteen-minute soothing foot soak in seasonal ingredients tailored to each person’s needs. While a person’s feet are soaking, the technician massages the customer’s back, neck and shoulders. This is followed by 45 minutes of reflexology. Another popular service the salon offers is one hour of Asian bodywork (similar to massage, but focusing on pressure points) for $60.
But in addition to the affordable prices, Chen is also offering special deals to help customers experience even more rejuvenation. Besides Sakura’s regular special that allows customers to purchase five sessions in advance and receive one for free, the salon currently has a special promotion that is only available for a limited time. Every Monday through Thursday, any customer who purchases a one-hour Asian bodywork session will receive a free 30-minute session of foot reflexology. Any customer who purchases one hour of foot reflexology, every Monday through Thursday, will receive 15 minutes of Asian bodywork for free.
And it’s not just individuals who can enjoy the services. Chen said that because this salon is more spacious than her Northborough business, it readily welcomes couples and groups of people who would like to be pampered together. Recently, Chen said, one group of girls happily celebrated Mother’s Day there and another group had fun celebrating a birthday. The additional space to accommodate these special girls’ nights is just one of the things Chen is excited about.
Chen is also thrilled with the privacy her new salon offers. She said the quiet location helps her customers to step away from their busy lives. With the peaceful atmosphere and professionally trained technicians, Chen believes that customers who experience Sakura Foot Reflexology will be happy they did. She said reflexology is part of a healthy lifestyle. And there’s no better time to embark on a healthier lifestyle than in the spring – when the sakura is in full bloom!
