Marlborough – Alice L. (Grasso) Dempsey, 95, died unexpectedly at her home Thursday, May 28, 2015. She was the wife of the late William Dempsey, who died in 2001. She was also the wife of the late John F. Wallace, who died in 1966.

She was born in Fitchburg, the daughter of the late Ralph and Antoinette (Martino) Grasso, and lived most of her life in Marlborough.

She worked last as a receptionist for the former Alden Electronics in Westborough. She previously worked as an operator for the former New England Telephone in Marlborough.

Alice was a longtime member of the former Saint Ann’s Church in Marlborough where she was a member of the choir, the Holy Rosary Sodality, and the Third Order of Franciscans. She was a volunteer for many different organizations, including Marlborough Hospital, where she did over 4,600 hours of volunteer work and was a longtime member of the Marlborough Hospital Auxillary. She also volunteered countless hours as a poll worker for local elections and at the Marlborough Senior Center. Shewas awarded Senior of the Year for the city of Marlborough in 2011.

She is survived by a son, Jack Wallace and his wife Lynn of Marlborough; a daughter, Joanne Cannava and her husband Vincent of Townsend; two brothers, John Grasso of Hudson and Andrew Grasso of Marlborough; two sisters, Anna DiAntonio of Marlborough and Tina Seymour of Marlborough; six grandchildren; Jeffrey Wallace and his wife Cathleen of Westborough , Susan Wallace of Dover, N.H., Kathleen Boyd of Georgetown, John Wallace and his wife Sheri of Kittery, Maine, Julie Doucet and her husband William of Westminster, and Michael Cannava of Newburyport; seven great-grandchildren, Joseph, Caitlin and Jack Wallace, Nicholas and Trevor Boyd, William Jr., and Theresa Doucet; and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, June 3, at 11 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, from 8:30-10:30 a.m., in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St., Marlborough.
