Marlborough – The announcement of the promotion of two Marlborough Police Department officers, Mercedes Roman and Peter Bradley, to police sergeant, brought councilors and other attendees to their feet for a standing ovation at the City Council’s June 1 meeting.
In presenting their promotions to Mayor Arthur Vigeant, Police Chief Mark F. Leonard stated that they would fill vacancies created by the retirements of Sgt. George Moran and Sgt. Richard Medeiros.
Roman is the first female command officer to hold this rank in the history of the Marlborough Police Department. She became a full-time member of the group in 1987, having worked in the patrol division as a patrol officer, a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer and detective. She has a master’s degree in criminal justice.
Bradley became a full-time member of the department in 2001. He has worked in the patrol division as a patrol officer and as a background investigator. He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Both officers have attended numerous training programs in specialized areas of law enforcement.
