Obit June St. MarieShrewsbury – Mary “June” St. Marie was young at heart. She died peacefully with family after a very short illness Tuesday, June 9, 2015. At almost 89 years old, she was still working in the rectory at St. Anne’s Church as housekeeper….a position she loved for over 20 years.

Born June 22, 1926 in Worcester, Mary June Bowento was a daughter of the late Angelo and Helen (Spillane) Bowento. Raised and educated in Worcester, she graduated from Commerce High School and later married John “Roland” St. Marie Oct. 19, 1947 in St. John’s Church. They lived their lives in Worcester until Roland’s death Oct. 19, 1985. She then moved to Shrewsbury and was a member of the Francis Gardens community.

June worked for the Assumptionist Fathers at Assumption College in Worcester and later in the cafeteria at Doherty High School, and then lastly in the rectory at St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury. Work at the rectory wasn’t work. Her talents for cooking and taking care of the household details made it a second home for her. She was meticulous with everything. She took good care of the rectory and the many priests whom she came in contact with through the years and could call friend.

June had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good practical joke and laugh. She looked forward to her weekly card games with friends each Wednesday or a ride to the casino to try her luck. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She will be missed.

She leaves her children, Linda A. Abdelnour and her partner James Carney of Shrewsbury and John R. St. Marie Jr. and his wife Gloria of Worcester; her grandchildren, Jesse Abdelnour and his wife Michelle, Ross Abdelnour and his wife Ashlee, Natalie MacClaren and her husband Joseph, Joseph Abdelnour and his wife Sarah, John St. Marie III and his wife Katherine, Nicole Polson and her husband Eric, and Justin St. Marie; her great-grandchildren, Jason, Jack, Max and Samantha, Zachary, and Nathaniel; her sister, Frances Finnegan of Shrewsbury; and nieces and nephews.
