Marlborough – Patricia Pope, the current Marlborough City Council president, will be stepping down from that position after being appointed as the new executive director of the city’s Council on Aging (COA).
In submitting his recommendation to the City Council at the June 1 meeting, Mayor Arthur Vigeant stated: “Patricia Pope is a great fit for this position because of her extensive experience working at senior living facilities, her 18 years of distinguished service on the City Council and her dedication to countless charitable causes.”
She will be filling the position held the past four years by Jennifer Claro who resigned in April to become COA director for the town of Westford. Ana Cristina Oliveira is currently serving as the city’s interim director.
In her letter of resignation to the City Council Pope stated: “I know that this opportunity will allow me to continue to serve the residents of Marlborough in a new and exciting way.” She expressed her gratitude to the residents of Marlborough “for entrusting me with the honor of representing them.” She also thanked her husband, Tom and sons, Drew, Coleman and Oliver, who she said have supported her politically and professionally through the years.
Pope is currently marketing director at Whitney Place Assisted Living Residences in Northborough. She will assume the new position in early July, 30 days after she submitted her resignation to the city council.
