Westborough – Approximately 20 teachers and administrators from the Elsie A. Hastings Elementary School, including Principal Leigh Becker, recently spent an evening at the McDonald’s restaurant located at 166 E Main St. The staff was not there to dine, however; rather, they were the “wait’ staff for the night. And for their efforts, the school’s Parents Group Council (PGC) received a check for $700.
The evening, dubbed “McTeachers” Night,” was organized under the direction of the restaurant’s owners Lori and Joe Ruscito and Corrie Marino, the PGC president. The restaurant donated a portion of the proceeds from the evening back to the school.
“It’s really important for us to give back to the communities we are in,” Ruscito said. “We want people to know that we are not just here as a restaurant. We want to offer support as well.”
Becker thanked Ruscito for the couple’s generosity. She noted that the monies will go towards educational technical materials for the school, such as iPad apps and whiteboards in the classrooms.
“The night was really well-attended by our staff and we had so much fun,” Becker said. “The kids love seeing their teachers in these different roles.”
“I have to add that the staff at McDonalds was great, too,” she said. “They made it so fun and easy for us – and they were very patient!”
Ruscito said if anyone would like information about holding a similar fundraising event, they may contact her at 978-928-5839 or email [email protected].
