Southborough – Southborough resident Jacob Qua, 13, had the thrill of a lifetime June 20 when he threw out the first pitch at the fifth annual Boston WIFFLE© Ball Challenge to benefit The Travis Roy Foundation, Inc., and Franciscan Hospital for Children. The event took place at the New Balance Field at Boston University with more than 180 players from the local business community, along with comedian Lenny Clarke. Later, he had the opportunity to reunite with his favorite Red Sox player, Tim Wakefield.

Qua is a former Franciscan Hospital for Children patient who was treated for a traumatic brain injury after falling from a third-story window in 2004. He was hospitalized there again 10 years later for a completely unrelated diagnosis of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, but is now, amazingly, on the road to full recovery. He first met Tim Wakefield when Wakefield visited the hospital in 2004 with the World Series trophy and spent time with Qua and his family during his first stay at Franciscan.
