Westborough – Residents and guests got a head start celebrating the holiday June 26 by attending the annual Westborough July 4th Family Block Party on West Main Street. Among the activities for family fun were a bounce house, dunk tank, sand art, airbrush tattoos, food concessions, and pony and horse-drawn carriage rides.
Live musical entertainment began with patriotic songs performed by the Westborough Community Band under the direction of Matthew Lefebvre, who acknowledged the Westborough Cultural Council for its support. “The Star-Spangled Banner” was sung by Sarah Connors, Pattie Romer and Mary Whamond-Fortier of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish Church. The Reminisants with lead singer Mike Royal of Marlborough returned for their sixth year and entertained with a repertoire of classic rock tunes.
Another favorite making a return appearance was magician Fran Flynn, who created balloon sculptures and performed a show sponsored by Westboro Tennis & Swim Club.
The four-hour evening event was organized by the Westborough July 4th Planning Committee consisting of Alan Grady, Jennifer Kirkland and Kayla McNamara of the Westborough Recreation Department; Peter Allan, Mark Brady, Adam Boyce, Don Shapleigh and Tom Shea of the Westborough Civic Club; and Kelly Donley of Uhlman’s Ice Cream.
