Boston – Jacob Qua, 13, of Southborough, had the thrill of a lifetime June 20 when he threw out the first pitch at the 5th Annual Boston WIFFLE© Ball Challenge to benefit The Travis Roy Foundation, Inc. and Franciscan Hospital for Children. The event took place at the New Balance Field at Boston University with more than 180 players from the local business community, along with comedian Lenny Clarke.

Jacob is a former Franciscan Hospital for Children patient who was treated for a spinal cord injury after falling from a third story window in 2004 and was hospitalized again 10 years later for a completely unrelated diagnosis of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, but is now, amazingly, on the road to full recovery. Jacob first met Wakefield when he visited the hospital in 2004 with the World Series trophy and spent time with Jacob and his family during his first stay at Franciscan.

Jacob had the opportunity to reunite with Wakefield at the June 20 event.
