Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Hudson – Roy E. Mathews Jr., 81, of Hudson, died Friday, July 10, 2015 at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Jeanette M. (Brooks) Mathews, who died in December 2014.

Roy was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, son of the late Roy E. Mathews Sr. and Marguerite (Brown) Mathews. He was a Korean War veteran, serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps until being honorably discharged in 1956. He had resided in Hudson since 1960.

Roy was a former police officer and detective for the town of Hudson in the 1970s and later was the director of security for the Digital Equipment Corp. in Stow. He retired as the director of security for the Showa Women’s Institute in Boston. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending several years as a crossing guard for the Town of Sudbury.

Roy enjoyed spending time with his family and always looked forward to the many camping trips they shared. He looked forward to spending the summer months at Hampton Beach, N.H. and the many deep sea fishing trips he took with family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend. He will be truly missed by all.

He is survived by his three children, Keith Mathews and his wife Barbara of Silver Ridge, Maine; Mark Mathews and his wife Deanne of Patten, Maine; and Lisa Chicoine and her husband Jeff of Hudson. He is also survived by his three sisters, Mary Lou Otto of Apopka, Fla., Carol Kerkeron of Berkley, and Roberta Koskoski of Brockton; his seven loving grandchildren; and four adoring great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service and celebration of Roy’s life will be held Saturday, July 18, at 11 a.m., in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery of Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Friday, July 17, from 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home.
