Northborough – Just about 100 golfers came out on a cloudy Friday morning, June 26, to participate in the second Lizzi Marriott Intrepid Explorer Fund Golf Tournament held at Juniper Hill Golf Course in Northborough. Family, friends, and community members set out for a game of golf followed by a luncheon with raffles and a silent auction.
Marriott, a native of Westborough, was a 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student studying marine sciences when she was murdered in October 2012. All proceeds from the golf tournament will go to a trust established to award scholarship money for students, like Marriott, who want to study marine sciences.
Rebecca Tyning, Marriott’s aunt, said that it was exciting to see the amount of people that came out for the event.
“The support is overwhelming,” she said.
Many of Marriott’s friends and family participated in the event, as well as members of the Westboro Athletic and Social Association (WASA), an organization involved with social betterment of the community through athletics.
The event was sponsored by many local businesses and individual supporters.
