Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Hudson – Alfred R. Barton, 79, a lifelong resident of Hudson, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home in Chelsea. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Theresa M. (Santella) Barton of Hudson.

Alfred was born in Marlborough, son of the late Ernest and Annette (Benoit) Barton. He was raised in Hudson where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Hudson High School. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army until being honorably discharged in 1955.

He was a longtime employee of the town of Hudson Department of Public Works. He was a life member of the Hudson Elks, the Riverside Rod and Gun Club, and the V.F.W. of Hudson. He was a member of Christ the King Parish and Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael Barton, his wife Mev, and their son Michael Joseph, all of Waltham, and his daughter, Tammy Johnson, her husband Todd, and their children Alexandra, Samantha, and Calvin, all of Hudson, along with his four brothers, Edmond, Edward, Robert, and Ernest Barton. He was predeceased by his siblings, Georgette and Raymond.

A private funeral service will be held in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home of Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Alfred may be made to the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home, 100 Summit Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.
