Ferrante sentenced in Shrewsbury house breaks

Worcester – Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. released this statement this afternoon regarding a man charged with home burglaries in Shrewsbury:

Nicholas Ferrante, 29, was sentenced to 3-5 years in state prison on Monday after pleading guilty in Worcester Superior Court to breaking into homes in Shrewsbury and stealing cash and jewelry, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Mr. Early said the case is a good example of how drug addiction can impact a community. Mr. Ferrante is known to police as a frequent drug user who uses the proceeds from break-ins to feed his habit.

Mr. Early praised Shrewsbury Det. Paul Brown for his investigation. On March 10, Det. Brown checked the records of a local jewelry and pawn shop and discovered that Mr. Ferrante had pawned a ring and two bracelets earlier that day.

Mr. Ferrante was on probation out of Worcester Superior Court and was wearing a GPS monitor. Using the GPS coordinates, Det. Brown tracked down where Mr. Ferrante had been and found the victims of the burglaries.

Mr. Ferrante pleaded guilty to two counts of breaking and entry in the daytime, two counts of burglary, three counts of larceny in a building and one count of receiving stolen property over $250 and attempting to commit a crime.

Mr. Ferrante will be placed on probation for two years following his prison sentence.
