Grafton – Apple Tree Arts presents the youth musical “Mary Poppins” Friday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at Northbridge Middle School, 171 Linwood Ave., Northbridge. Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and students; and free for children four and younger. Tickets will be sold at the door.

The cast includes 30 students entering grades eight to 12 from Boylston, Douglas, Grafton, Northbridge, Shrewsbury, Sutton, Upton and Uxbridge. The production features a live orchestra pit, a theatrical drop of the beautiful interior of a Victorian mansion and 1900s-era costumes. Directed by Donna Blanchard, executive director of Apple Tree Arts, the orchestra pit will include a piano, clarinet, trombone, trumpet, bass cello, flute and percussion.

“The musical is a great family show with a timeless story line, classic songs like ‘Jolly Holiday’ and ‘A Spoonful of Sugar,’ and big company musical numbers that appeal to both children and adults,” explained Lisa Scarlett, Apple Tree Arts’ theatre arts director and co-director with Shannon May, theatre arts faculty member. “The two-act musical is challenging to produce in two weeks because it’s complicated with many scenes in each act. The play is a Disney favorite that brings back fond memories for different generations.”
