Obit Aurea E. SantiagoMarlborough – Aurea E. Santiago, 88, of Marlborough, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 at Marlborough Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of Juan A. Vazquez for the past 60 years.

She was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Jose Santiago and Maria Feliciano, and graduated from high school in Yauco.

Aurea worked as a fancy stitcher at John Frye Boot for over 20 years, retiring in 1980. She previously worked at Diamond Shoe Company and Marlborough Foot Wear for many years.

Aurea was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and playing cards with her friends at Academy Knoll and playing bingo. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother who will be remembered as being a strong willed, opinionated and a feisty woman with a loving heart.

Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Lourdes E. Boyd and her husband Vincent Rizzelli of Marlborough and Yvonne Yancey and her husband Kelly of Belton, Texas; two sisters, Juanita Santiago of Bronx, N.Y. and Mildred Santiago of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandsons, William R. Boyd of Marlborough and Kolin E. Yancey of Belton, Texas; and a great-grandson, Ryan J. Boyd of Worcester. She was the mother of the late Joseph Quiros and Juan Vazquez.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m., in Immaculate Conception Church, Prospect Street. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street. Calling hours will be held Friday, Aug. 21, from 6-8 p.m., in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough.
