Shrewsbury – On a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon, Sept. 5, the Lake Quinsigamond Watershed Association (LQWA) hosted its annual boat parade and competition. Eighteen boats were decorated to reflect this year’s theme, “Favorite Cartoon.”
First place went to “Cat in the Hat” by the Flynn family of Shrewsbury; second place was “Popeye” by Diane Williams and family of Worcester; and third was the “Little Mermaids,” by Susan Butke’s Thursday Night Boat Girls. “Snoopy” by the Kaspulis Family of Shrewsbury and “Scooby Doo” by the Grant family of Worcester tied for fourth.
Judging the event was State Sen. Michael Moore, D-Millbury; State Rep. Hannah Kane, R-Shrewsbury; Angela Snell, director; Shrewsbury selectmen Moira Miller and Maurice DePalo; and Worcester City Councilor Kate Toomey.
Sponsors for the event included USA Marine, Shore Side Docks, Ski Chair, Padavano’s Place and Madulka’s Ice Cream.
The non-profit, volunteer-based LQWA advocates for issues related to preserving and maintaining the environmental and recreational quality of the four-mile lake. For more information visit www.lqwa.org.
