150904 rsShrewsbury – Town Meeting is a uniquely New England form of town government. But over the past years, many local communities have found that the number of those attending meetings has declined.

Recently Shrewsbury Town Moderator Christopher Mehne sent a survey to Town Meeting members as a way to solicit their input on what changes they would like to see implemented for future meetings. Although a bit disappointed about the number of responses he received back, Mehne noted that most members are satisfied with the way things are.

One change most would like to see, however, is cutting down the length of a meeting. That could be done, they suggested, by shortening or eliminating Mehne’s introductions of officials at the start of a meeting and ending meetings at 10 p.m.
