Northborough – The Marlborough High School Panthers defeated the Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks football team by a score of 28-14 in a game played Sept. 18.
Marlborough’s Brian Short completed three touchdown passes to Sam Dias in the first half, including one for 74 yards on the first play of the game, giving Marlborough a 21-0 lead at halftime.
Algonquin came back with two touchdowns in the second half. Ryan Barry completed touchdown passes to Brett Sherman and Gavin Boyden to bring the score to 21-14. Algonquin regained possession of the ball with two minutes remaining and had a chance to tie the game but was unable to move the ball out of Marlborough territory. Marlborough’s Luke Goulet ran six yards to score the final touchdown of the game.
Marlborough improved to 1-1 on the season with the win, while Algonquin fell to 0-2.
