Shrewsbury – For the third year in a row, Central One Federal Credit Union has donated $20,000 to the Shrewsbury High School (SHS) Athletic Department. A check was presented to school administrators by David L’Ecuyer, the bank’s president and CEO, at the school Sept. 21 as many of the student athletes looked on.
“We are a community-focused credit union,” L’Ecuyer noted, “and we feel that our student athletes are a critical part of the success of our community.”
“There is always a financial need [in the schools], so we are happy to help out,” he added.
The administrators expressed their thanks to L’Ecuyer for the donation.
“We continue to be very grateful for Central One’s generosity,” said Dr. Joseph Sawyer, the Shrewsbury Superintendent of Public Schools. “[This donation] will help us continue to have high quality programs for our student athletes.”
Jason Costa, the school’s athletic director, said, there were “no plans yet” for the funds, but that they would definitely be used for items or programs this winter that the budget would not cover.
“Whether it’s athletic or academic programming, we’re grateful for the folks at Central One,” SHS Principal Todd Bazydlo said, referring to the assistance Central One provides students both on and off the field. In addition to supporting athletics, Central One staff teaches financial literacy classes attended by nearly 400 students each year and operates a branch inside SHS for student and faculty use.
Central One Federal Credit Union has branches in Shrewsbury, Westborough, Northborough and Auburn; as well as school branches in both Shrewsbury and Westborough high schools.
