Lt. Governor Polito signs Community Compacts with Shrewsbury, Westborough

Region – On Nov. 3, Lt. Governor Karyn Polito signed Community Compact agreements with area officials from the towns of Shrewsbury, Westborough and Lancaster.

“We are pleased to announce these new partnerships between Shrewsbury, Westborough, Lancaster and the commonwealth,” Polito said. “Each compact represents a pursuit of best practices in financial reporting, service regionalization, and economic development, and our administration looks forward to providing assistance for these self-selected initiatives.”

Community Compacts are one tool the administration is utilizing to strengthen the partnership between cities and towns and the commonwealth. By entering a Community Compact, a community agrees to implement self-selected best practices. As part of this partnership, the commonwealth agrees to fulfill a set of commitments and works to provide assistance for a community based on their chosen best practice.

Shrewsbury’s compacts offer a written plan for implementation of the desired structure and reporting relationships of its finance offices, as well as pursuing productive partnerships between municipalities to encourage regionalization of some services and sharing resources among communities.

In its compacts, the town of Westborough pledges to develop a documented plan to identify issues and service improvements surrounding the anticipated increase in older drivers, as well as developing a documented plan for local infrastructure the furthers commercial development and housing production.

The Community Compact is a voluntary, mutual agreement entered into between the Baker-Polito Administration and individual cities and towns of the commonwealth. For more information or to apply for a Community Compact, go to
