Shrewsbury – A comfortably cool morning Nov. 7 drew nearly 200 runners and walkers to participate in the 11th annual Veterans Memorial 5K Road Race/Walk, beginning and ending at Veterans Inc. in Shrewsbury. Matthew Depari of Worcester finished first overall in 17:22. The first-place female finishing in 23:58 was Holly Hruskoci of Shrewsbury, a seventh-grader at Oak Middle School.

Prior to the race, a Salute to Veterans was observed with the colors presented by the Reserve Officer Training Corps color guard from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. Speakers included Vincent Perrone, president and CEO of Veterans Inc.; Denis Leary, vice president and executive director; and state Rep. Hannah Kane, R-Shrewsbury.

Proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will go to the Veterans Inc. Food Pantry. For information about the nonprofit organization, visit veteransinc.org and on Facebook at facebook.com/veteransinc.
