Obit Lois MartinShrewsbury – Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, one day shy of celebrating her 98th birthday, Lois E. (Lehman) Martin died at the Rose Monahan Hospice House in Worcester.

Born Nov. 16, 1917 at the family home in Shrewsbury, Lois was the youngest of five children born to the late Charles Everett and Anna Frances (Amsden) Lehman. She lived her entire life in the town she loved, Shrewsbury.

Lois went through the Shrewsbury school system, graduating from of the former Maj. Howard W. Beal High School with the class of 1935. She went to work as a dental assistant for Dr. James Martin, who owned and operated his practice in Shrewsbury center. She would later marry James March 30, 1941 in the First Congregational Church.

It was the simple things in life that Lois adored, her family and her faith. In addition to being an active mother in Brownies and Cub Scouts, Lois loved to golf, read, garden, and volunteer, and in her later years she even enjoyed playing billiards.

Her husband of 46 years, James died Aug. 12, 1987. In addition, she was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Gordon Lehman, and sisters, Dorothy Horne and Helen Vanden Bosch.

She leaves her children, C. Gregory Martin and his wife Astrid Williams of Concord and Wendy E. Hylton and her husband Bradford of Worcester; four grandchildren, Lauren Kushman and her husband Timothy, Christopher Martin and his wife Julie, Geoffrey Martin and his wife Laurel, and James Bedard; four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Peter, Daphne and Ren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Lois’s life by gathering for a calling hour Saturday, Nov. 28, from 9:30-10:45 a.m., in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, and then walking in procession to the First Congregational Church, 19 Church Rd., where her funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Lynne Dolan will officiate. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
