Southborough – Richard “Dick” T. Bessom, 81, passed away in the presence of family Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 at the Coleman House in Northborough.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Mina (Townley) Bessom, and grew up in Newton with his younger brother Malcolm.

After graduating from Newton High School, he attended Boston University where he earned a degree in Public Relations, Communications and Business Administration. Following university, he spent two years with the U.S. Coast Guard, during which time he met Trudi Winkler. They married in 1958 and had four children, whom they raised in Natick and later Southborough.

Dick spent his career in the insurance industry, becoming the Director of Human Resources at Paul Revere, now Unum.

He was an active Boy Scout leader, loved hiking, carpentry, and was an excellent dancer. Upon retirement, he dedicated his time to family, as well as traveling and gardening with his wife, Trudi.

Dick is survived by his wife, Trudi (Winkler) Bessom of Southborough, and his three children, Cheryl Satrom of Shrewsbury, Susan Nelhuebel of Southborough, and Jeff Bessom of Leominster, as well as his four grandchildren, Matthew, Derek, Nicholas and Cara, and his great-grandchildren Liesel, Lenore and Violet. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric Bessom, and his brother, Malcolm Bessom.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m., at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 15 Common St., Southborough. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.      Arrangements are under the care of the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.ALZMASS.org) or Pilgrim Congregational Church.
