Northborough – The Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks football team defeated the Westborough High School Rangers by a score of 41-0 in their annual Thanksgiving Day meet up. This year’s edition of the game was played at Algonquin Regional.
The grandstand was overflowing for the game, with many alumni of both schools present to support their teams. Estimated attendance was 7,310. At halftime, there were performances by the Westborough Marching Band, the Algonquin Regional Color Guard and the Algonquin Regional Pep Band.
Additionally, the 2015 inductees into the Algonquin Regional Hall of Fame were recognized – Neil Burke (Coach), David Fouracre (’61), Illya Nicholas (’87), Brad Ostiguy (’74), Deb Taylor Lewis (’84) and the entire 1973 Super Bowl Football Team, including head coach Richard “Dick” Walsh.
Algonquin’s first score was a touchdown by Billy Polymeros in the first quarter. The Tomahawks then exploded for four touchdowns in the second quarter, with Kaio Menezes, Thomas Polutchko, Brett Sherman and Matt Griffin all scoring. Their final score came on a fourth quarter touchdown by Nick Vencile.
Algonquin concluded their season with an 8-3 record, their best season record since 1987. Westborough finished off the season with a 2-9 record.
