Westborough – The annual Borough’s Cup boys ice hockey tournament kicked off Dec. 16 with two semifinal games played at Northstar Ice Sports.
The Westborough High School Rangers fell to the Wachusett Regional High School Mountaineers by a score of 5-2 in the first game of the evening. Wachusett jumped out 3-0 lead before Westborough’s Jacob Uhlman scored in the third period. Wachusett responded with two goals to take a commanding lead before Westborough knocked in a final goal with 0:12 remaining in the game. Jeffrey Bernard had 40 saves in net for Westborough.
The Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks topped the Marlborough High School Panthers by a score of 5-0 in the second game of the evening. John Paterson, Jake Kelleher, Alex DiPadua, Kevin Reale, and Ryan Decker each scored for Algonquin while Mike Tascione got the shutout in goal.
Algonquin will face off against Wachusett in the Borough’s Cup finals on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 8:10 p.m. Westborough will take on Marlborough in the consolation game at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Northstar Ice Sports in Westborough.
