Shrewsbury – Boy Scout Troop 4, chartered by the Ray Stone American Legion Post in Shrewsbury, had a busy month of November by participating in multiple service projects in both Shrewsbury and Westborough. Troop membership includes Scouts from both Shrewsbury and Westborough. These service projects included helping at the Veterans Day ceremony at Beal Early Childhood Center in Shrewsbury, performing a critical role in Westborough’s Scouting for Food, and helping at the Christmas tree sale at the Westborough Civic Club.

The Boy Scouts from Troop 4, along with other Scout troops in Shrewsbury, attended the Veterans Day ceremony at the World War I Memorial in front of Beal School. The Scouts helped with setting up for the ceremony and provided a color guard during the ceremony. Troop 4 Scoutmaster John Travers was the master of ceremonies.

Troop 4 has an important role in Westborough’s annual Scouting for Food, a program run by the Westborough Food Pantry. Troop 4’s role is to go to every street in Westborough to place stickers on the front door of each house requesting residents to put certain types of packaged food on their doorstep on the following Saturday for pickup by Cub Scouts. Some Troop 4 Scouts also went to the Westborough Food Pantry to help unload the cars bringing in food, weigh the food and pack it for distribution.

The final service project this month for Troop 4 is the Westborough Civic Club Christmas tree sale. Troop 4’s role at this is to help mark the trees according to what price they should be, along with hauling the trees from the drop-off truck to where they are sold, and helping people who have just bought a tree bring it to their car.
