Westborough – The visiting Marlborough High School Panthers girls’ basketball team defeated the Westborough High School Rangers by a score of 52-50 in a game played Dec. 18.
The Panthers held a very comfortable 29-14 lead at halftime, but the Rangers came out strong in the third period, scoring 15 unanswered points to briefly tie the game at 29-29. The Panthers then pulled ahead and held on to the lead for the remainder of the game. The Rangers continued to fight hard and came within two points of tying up the game again twice in the final minute.
Jillian Petrie was the top scorer for Marlborough with 16 points, while Sarah Popivchak added 13 and Halle McCabe contributed 11. Haley Brown was the top scorer for Westborough with 20 points and captain Julie Hutchinson added 14.
Marlborough improves to 3-0 on the season while Westborough falls to 0-2.
