Obit Carol A DoddsShrewsbury – Carol A. (Smith) Dodds, 80, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, in her daughter’s home.

She was born in Worcester and raised in Leicester, daughter of the late Harold and Dorothy (Cote) Smith. She attended Leicester Schools. On April 16, 1955 she married the man in her life, Donald R. Dodds. Together they started their family and had lived in Shrewsbury for over 40 years.

Carol had been employed at the former Bradlees’s Department Store in White City for over 30 years before she retired. In her retirement years, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, these were some of her happiest moments in her life. She enjoyed playing bingo, working on crossword puzzles and teaching all the children in the family how to play Yahtzee.

Her husband of 53 years, Donald R. Dodds died in 2009. She leaves her loving family, Dorothy C. Radcliffe-Bates and her husband Bryan of Spencer, Gail A. Bernier and her husband Richard of Manchaug, and Thomas H. Dodds and his wife Jane of Barre; five grandchildren, Heidi Hall, Kimberly Bernier, Christina Marcos, Mindy Haynes, and Tomas Dodds; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Bernier, and six siblings, Harold, Earl, Constance, Dorothy, Elizabeth, and MaryJane.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Carol’s family Wednesday, Jan. 6, from 4-7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton.
