Doris M. Vaillancourt, 94, of Grafton

43

Obit Doris M. VaillancourtGrafton – Doris M. (Cardin) Vaillancourt died peacefully Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at Life Care Center of Auburn. On Nov. 23, 2015, she celebrated her 94th birthday.

She was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret (Sampson) Cardin.

Doris was the beloved wife of Norman J. Vaillancourt, who died in 1990, one month shy of their 50th anniversary. She leaves her three devoted sons, Ernest Vaillancourt and his wife Catherine, Norman Vaillancourt and his wife Marilynn, and Steven Vaillancourt and his wife Lisa, and her son-in-law, Ronald Forget. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and her brothers, Alfred, Albert, and Robert Cardin, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Forget; her great-grandson, PFC Brian Moquin; her brothers, Francis and Walter Cardin; and her sisters, Mabel Hanley and Evelyn Witkofski.

Doris grew up in Fisherville (The Village), a section of South Grafton. When her short-term memory weakened, that was the place she referred to as home. She spent her married life on East Street in North Grafton, and then moved to Douglas to be close to her daughter when her husband died. She resided in Life Care Center of Auburn for the last four years. The family appreciates the care she received there, especially from Samantha, Faustina and Theresa.

Doris centered her life around her home and her family. She loved holiday celebrations and spontaneous dinners around her kitchen table. Visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her very happy. Everyone in her family will miss her warm smile, big hugs, and her impish sense of humor, which she never lost. She was a loving and well-loved mother, mother-in-law and Memere.

Doris’s calling hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 5, from 4-7 p.m., at the Roney Funeral Home, 152 Worcester St., North Grafton. Her funeral Mass will be Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 17 Waterville St., North Grafton.

Flowers may be sent or donations made in her name to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
