Northborough – Selectmen voted Jan. 11 to appoint Kyle McKenzie Crewe of Oxford as a member of the town’s Police Department.
Crewe, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who served in Iraq, is scheduled to graduate from the Boylston Regional Police Academy in January.
A graduate of Millbury High School, Crewe also holds a bachelor of ccience from Worcester State University. In the Marines, he served in combat in Iraq and achieved the rank of corporal before being honorably discharged in 2010.
He is expected to join the force Jan. 18.
Also Jan. 11, selectmen voted to issue the second phase of the bonds that will fund the ongoing Lincoln Street School project.
The town received an interest rate of 2.27 percent on the $7.3 million in borrowing – the second of two phases of borrowing for the project, the largest single capital project in the town’s history.
Finance Director June Hubbard-Ward said that rate is the lowest the town has ever seen on similar bonds. That’s proof, said Town Administrator John Coderre, that adherence to the town’s long-term financial plan – which helped the town earn an increase in its bond rating last year – saves taxpayer money in the long run.
