Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Historical Society, 17 Church Road, presents “Winters of the Revolution” by John Horrigan Wednesday, Jan. 27, 7 p.m.
The harsh winters during the Revolutionary War affected the outcome of several battles and changed America’s destiny. The cold weather hampered British mobility and forced them to cease “campaigning” during the winter months. Some, like Henry Knox and George Washington, took advantage of the snow and ice and used it to their advantage, while on other occasions it nearly decimated the Continental Army at Valley Forge and hampered Benedict Arnold at the Battle of Quebec. Historical weather researcher John Horrigan will present a captivating lecture that describes the severe winters and their subsequent historical impact from 1770 through 1783. John Horrigan, a Revolutionary War researcher, is one of America’s leading popular historians. He has presented lectures at historical societies and other prominent venues through New England over the past 20 years. John’s historical lecture portfolio includes over 100 different titles.
