Northborough: Beginning photography classes at Northborough Library

Northborough – The Northborough Free Library, 34 Main St., is offering a new series of classes on beginning photography Wednesday evenings from 7-8:15 p.m., starting Feb. 17. The classes will be held in the library’s Internet Café, located on the second floor. The classes are open to those age 14 and older who are interested in learning how to tell stories using their digital cameras. The classes will be taught by photographer Jeanine Vitale whose studio, Prism Point Photography, is located in Northborough.

The following classes are being offered: Overview of photography basics, telling a story, Feb. 17; Composition and point of focus, Feb. 24; Dare to go manual, f-stop, shutter speed, ISO, March 2; Lighting: artificial, natural and ambient, March 9; Using PhotoShop basics to manipulate images, March 23; and Assembling your story, photography contests, March 30. Note: There will be no class March 16.

Those interested in registering for the entire series can register online via the Northborough Free Library’s website at www.northboroughlibrary.org or call Adult Services at 508-393-5025 ext. 5. The registration fee is $50 per person, payable in advance at the Check-out Desk to Prism Point Photography. Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Students should plan to bring their own digital cameras, preferably one with a manual setting. Please note this course will not be suitable for cameras on cell phones or other mobile devices. Students will also be asked to bring 3 images (jpeg format) of their own to the first class Feb. 17.

Following the classes, there will be an exhibit of students’ work in the library’s Meeting Room during the month of April. An optional field trip to an outdoor location may also be held.
