Northborough – The Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks girls’ basketball team defeated the Shrewsbury High School Colonials by a score of 56-41 in a game played Jan. 22.
Algonquin, who never trailed in the game, led 11-8 after the first quarter, and then extended their lead to 28-20 at halftime. Shrewsbury continued to battle the second half but was unable to close the gap.
Algonquin freshman Rachel McMenemy was the game’s top scorer with 14 points. Senior captain Caroline Leonard scored 10 and sophomore Amanda Carroll added 9 points.
Captain Julia Spagnuolo was Shrewsbury’s top scorer with 11 points. Senior Janey Mullins added 8, while Kate Montigny and Blair Govoni contributed 6 points each.Algonquin improves to 5-5 on the season while Shrewsbury falls to 3-9.
