Obit James W YoungWestborough – James W. Young, 71, longtime resident of Westborough, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Portland, Maine, Jim was the son of the late Lester and Dorothy (Brooks) Young.

He leaves his best friend and wife of 45 years, Susan T. (Schultze) Young. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jeffrey J. Young and his wife Lisa of Upton, Michael R. Young and his wife Andrea of Shrewsbury, and Brett T. Young and his wife Georgette of North Andover, and seven of his adoring grandchildren, Emily, Allyson, Lilia, Caroline, Avery, Rowen, and Camden. He was predeceased by his brother, David Young.

Jim was raised in Lyman, Maine and, at the age of 14, moved to North Andover, where he attended high school. He was a member of the national honor society and student council, and enjoyed playing sports. He held a track record in the 880. He attended Northeastern University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and business management.

He worked for various companies in sales, marketing and management over the course of his career including General Foods, CVS, Hanes, and Entertainment, Inc.

Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed family time, skiing, tennis, horseshoes, and working in his yard. Later in life, he and his wife shared daily walks and playing golf. He often planned trips with Susan around New England and Cape Cod, viewing the fall foliage or enjoying the summer sun. He truly loved traveling and meeting new people and would strike up a conversation anywhere he went. He reveled in the art of getting a great deal and would go out of his way to research the best ones for friends and family.

He was most proud of his three sons. He will be dearly missed as a beloved husband, father, and grampy.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jim’s family Thursday, Feb. 11, from 5-7 p.m., at Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westborough. His funeral Mass will be held Friday, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m., at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 151 Mendon St., Upton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Jim’s brother to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
