Northborough – The Board of Selectmen voted during its Feb. 8 meeting to move the town’s annual Election Day from Monday to Tuesday starting in 2017, though the move will still require Town Meeting approval and buy-in from Southborough.
Town Clerk Andrew Dowd said he has long heard from people who questioned why the local election was held on Monday when most state and national votes are cast on Tuesday. It is not unusual for voters to show up on Tuesday morning looking to vote in elections held the day before.
Selectmen agreed, with some saying they are questioned every year on the choice of voting day, and voted unanimously to back the change. Town Meeting voters will have their say in late April.
The move is also contingent on Southborough officials and voters also agreeing to move its elections to Tuesday, as the towns’ regional school district agreement requires elections be held on the same day.
