Car Wash (Macelhaney) 55 Boroughs Med (Priest) 51
The Sunday tilt between Car Wash and Boroughs Medical went to the Car Wash 55-51 in a very competitive battle between two 2-2 teams on Sunday. Medical opened fast with cat like quickness from Collin Priest and Will Kelley and strong support from their two bigs, Charlie Katz and Justin Gonzalez. They raced out to an early 9-4 lead as the Car Wash continued their Sunday morning first quarter doldrums. Ultimately behind its bigs of Arya Murthi and Julian Bosch, the Car Wash cut the lead to 13-11 Medical after one. Both teams pounded the ball inside and the ref whistles were flying and each team went to the charity stripe 11 times in quarter 2, and the half ended 27-24 Car Wash. Bosch went off in quarter three, and with Alan Dubrovsky connecting for his 5 pts in the quarter, it looked like the Car Wash would soak Medical down the drain as they led 43-34 entering quarter four. Alas, Collin Priest and Co scrapped and clawed the entire fourth quarter with frantic defense and cut the lead to 3 with a minute to go, but ultimately Car Wash hung on for a hard fought 55-51 battle. Priest led Medical (2-3) with 22 along with Gonzalez’ 14 point contribution. For Car Wash (3-2), Bosch led all scorers with 23 and Trevor McNamara and Matt Bongi each added 10.

Training Assoc. (Smith) 62 JP’s (Meyer) 54
The first quarter featured a bunch of spurts from both sides Training scoring the first 4 points then JP’s behind Walthall going on a 9-2 run and then Training answering near the end to take a 12-11 first quarter lead. The second quarter Cj Smith seized the moment though, as attention was clearly on Correnti, Smith was able to drive the baseline netting 6 of Training’s 10 points for the quarter. Gallo and Joshi hit the only baskets for Jp’s, both 3’s keeping the game close trailing only 22-18 after 2 quarters with half of their points coming from 3’s. In the third quarter Jack Walthall scored 11 including two threes but every one of his 3-pointers was answered by one from Andre Chen. The third quarter ended with Training able to extend their lead by 2, now up 37-31. Time and time again in the 4th quarter Correnti was cleaning the glass on the offensive side and converting the put-back. He totaled 13 points in the quarter pushing the lead out to 16. Back came JP with Joshi netted 3 more threes and Spencer Nagi converted two runners in the lane and suddenly the lead was only five. Training was able to convert their free throws down the stretch, as JP was forced to foul, and held on to win 62-54. Correnti led all scorers with 27, Chen had 12 and Smith chipped in 10 for Training. Walthall carried JP’s with 20 with Joshi netting 15 on 5 threes and Nagi adding 10.

WASA (Kash/Dugard) 49 Ricardi Designs (Moran/Fitzgerald) 26
With only 5 players, the Ricardi Designs (Moran/Fitzgerald) played their hearts out; but came up short against a strong WASA (Kash/Dugard) team 49 to 26. Ricardi Designs Sophomore Logan Zais led all scorers with 14 points and a couple of nice 3 pointers; however a full squad, balanced scoring attack, and tenacious defense from WASA was too much for Ricardi Design to handle. Jake Lubsen led the WASA team with 12 points, with Jake Dugard draining 8. The WASA team was excited to get point guard Ryan Alexander back in the mix after missing the first 4 games. Ryan, Peter Gonsalves, and Tamas Palfi poured in 6 points each with Kush Patel capturing 5. Kush also started the game with a sweet 3 point bomb…Defensive prowess by WASA made it tough for Ricardi Designs to get the ball inside to their big man Thomas Mespelli (6 points) as Derek Tam, Dan Moon, Vish Matta and Greg Kashmanian were relentless in their defensive zone.
Next week, the WASA team goes up against a strong JP’s team (Corey/Meyer), with Ricardi Designs battling Arturo’s (French/Beliveau).
