Westborough – The Shrewsbury High School Colonials wrapped up their regular season with a 2-0 win over the Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks in a boys ice hockey matchup played February 20 at Northstar Ice Sports.
The game was scoreless until Shrewsbury’s Matt Ward scored a power-play goal at 9:03 in the second period, assisted by Adam Twitchell. Joe Walton scored an empty net goal with 31 seconds remaining in the game for Shrewsbury’s second tally. Shane Gorrie had 21 saves for Shrewsbury while Algonquin’s Mike Tascione had 29 saves.
Shrewsbury finished the regular season as the Quinn Conference champions, with a 18-1-1 record, the best in school history. Algonquin wraps up their regular season with a 12-3-5 record, second in the Roy Conference. Both teams will be advancing to the playoffs, the pairings will be announced on Saturday, February 27.
