Obit Arthur George IIIWestborough – Arthur George III, 82, of Westborough, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at St. Camillus Health Center in Northbridge.

Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Arthur and Irene (Gray) George. He was educated in Westborough schools and attended Worcester Junior College. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S Air Force. While in the service, he attended Arlington Aero School.

Arthur was the owner of the Checkerboard Diner, the Dinette, and the Cow Shed. He worked for the Bruce Center, a handicap workshop in Worcester, and also formerly owned the Lashette Co.

He was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, a member of the VFW Post 9013, Siloam Lodge, past president of the Lions Club, former member of the Jaycees, the Westborough Militia, and he especially enjoyed selling Christmas trees with the Westborough Civic Club. An active member of Westborough’s 250th celebration, he remained a “Brother of the Brush” until the end.

Arthur is survived by five daughters, Debra L. George and her companion Roger Mocenigo of Encino, Calif., Lisa V. George and her husband Jimmy Pritchard of Marstons Mills, Pamela Hardina and her husband Michael of Northbridge, Sonja Chase and her husband Jeffrey of Northbridge, and Karla Pratt and her husband David of S. Hadley, and nine grandchildren, Marisa, Jamie and Jason Hardina, Kaila, Nicholas and Alex Chase and David Jr., Michael and Julia Pratt. He is also survived by his former wife, Doris Johansson, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his former wife, Janet (Dunn) George, and his sister, Janice MacAlister.

Calling hours Thursday, Feb. 25, from 4-7 p.m., in the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Members of Siloam Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 26, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery will be at a later date.
