If you were anywhere near Zeh School on Howard Street or trying to navigate Church Street in Northborough at 8 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning you were treated to a glimpse of the 8th Annual Northborough Turkey Trot which benefits the Northborough Food Pantry. With the idea that 300 or so registrants would join in this year’s event, Rita Matraia, the owner of Core Connection fitness club and founder of this town event, welcomed close to 500 participants on Thanksgiving morning. An astonishing 479 “Turkey Trotters” finished their route.
Recently we met with Ms. Matraia and her co-organizers Mary McCrorey and Maggie Kosovsky to review and celebrate this growing Thanksgiving tradition. We would like to thank all involved with making this such a success. This can be seen by the smiles on faces captured by Kosovsky Photography. Success was also noted by a record setting $11,000 in proceeds being donated to the Northborough Food Pantry (NFP). The pantry is run completely by volunteers which allows 100 percent of proceeds to be used to purchase food items for those utilizing the pantry services. The generous monetary donation raised by this one event ensures the pantry will be able to provide supplemental food to Northborough residents in need for many months to come.
