Westborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon released this statement this morning regarding an accident that occurred March 2 that resulted in the fatality of a Plymouth woman:
At approximately 4:30 PM, the Westborough Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on W. Main St. at the entrance to the Westborough Country Club. The arriving units located a 2010 Toyota Van partially underneath a school bus. A 79 year old male passenger who was the owner of the van, was identified as Ronald P. White of 65 Ellisville Rd. Plymouth, was treated at the scene for non-life threatening internal injuries and transported to U Mass Medical by Paramedics from the Westborough Fire Department.
An 11 year old female, who was also a passenger in the van, was transported to U. Mass to be checked out. She had minor bumps and bruises.
The operator of the Toyota van was identified as Desiree M. White, age 80 of 65 Ellisville Rd. Plymouth. It took the Westborough and Northborough Fire Departments with the assistance of Teds Towing 2 hours to remove her from the crash. She was treated at the scene by Paramedics from the Westborough Fire Department and Life Flight Helicopter. She was transported to U Mass Medical by Westborough Fire Ambulance where she subsequently died from her injuries.
The operator of the bus was identified as Robert W. Mitchell, age 60 of 7 Clark Rd. Charlton. The bus, a 2016 school bus was owned by a company called NRT Bus of 55 Hampshire Rd. Methuen and had just dropped off the last student from Assabet Valley High School.
The accident appeared to occur when the bus pulled from the parking lot heading east on W. Main St. The arriving units noted that the solar glare was blinding when they reached that location. It appeared that Desiree White did not see the bus due to the glare and struck the left side ending up under the bus.
