Shrewsbury –The Shrewsbury Stop & Shop, located at 539 Boston Turnpike, presented a donation of $4,116 to the St. Anne’s Human Services food pantry March 1.

Elaine LeBlanc, the organization’s director, and Jo Ann Keegan, the food pantry manager, accepted the check from management and employees of the store.

“There is always a need,” Keegan said. “We serve close to 1,000 people each year. So this is so wonderful.”

“It’s a great help to us,” LeBlanc added. “We can use all the help we can get as we try our best to serve friends and residents in Shrewsbury who are in need.”

The donation was made as part of the store’s Food for Friends program which allowed customers to make in-store donations of $1, $3 or $5 at checkout registers. The store also provides “all the trimmings” boxes to the food pantry during the holidays and offers additional support throughout the year.

“We are committed to helping our neighbors in need,” Store Manager John Costello said. “We are grateful to our customers and employees for their participation in this program.”
