JeannetteĀ L. Young, 87, of Southborough

67

Southborough – Jeannette L. (Grise) Young, 87, of Southborough, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 13, 2016 after a period of declining health. She was the devoted wife of the late Edward J. Young, who died in 1994.

Born in Ware, she was the daughter of the late Adrian and Ella (Dubois) Grise. She was a graduate of Worcester State College, where she majored in teaching and minored in geography.

She taught math and English for over 30 years at area schools and retired from the Marlborough Public School system.

She would dazzle us with her knowledge of obscure facts about the mountain ranges of China, Europe and Africa’s rivers, tributaries and deserts. She had an obsessive interest in meteorology, where she could talk about cloud types, storm fronts and weather systems for hours.

Jeannette was an active member of St. Matthew Church of Southborough, where she was a sacristan for over 22 years. She could often be seen at the rectory doing many tasks, no matter how menial, with a smile.

She is survived by her children, Monica Snow of Hudson, Edward A. Young of Hopkinton, Bernadette Fernandes and her husband Stephen of Rutland, Vt., and Theresa Churchill and her husband Stephen of Grafton; five grandchildren, Angela, Theresa and Charles Snow, Brian Young, and Emily Fernandes; and two sisters, Sister Mare Adriandella and Sister Mary Martin de Porres of the Sisters of Providence in Holyoke. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Loretta Young, who passed away in 1968.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 17, from 4-7 p.m., at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, March 18, at 12 p.m., at St. Matthew Church, 26 Highland St., Southborough. Burial will follow in the Southborough Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent in her memory to St. Matthew Church, 105 Southville Rd., Southborough, MA 01772 or Sisters of Providence, 5 Gameline St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
